Within the framework of the ACCOBAMS agreement a partnership of Italian and Tunisian research bodies is investigating the presence of cetacean, and the relationship with maritime traffic, within the region comprise among Tunisia-Sicily-Sardinia considered a critical habitat for cetacean species. To be able to systematically investigate the region, especially in high sea areas and all year round, ferries are used as platform of observations. Floating marine litter is experimentally investigated.

39° e 40° TRAVERSATA PALERMO-TUNISI
Condizioni meteorologiche favorevoli durante entrambe le traversate hanno permesso di registrare diversi avvistamenti di Stenella coeruleoalba, Tursiops truncatus e Caretta caretta;
a gennaio in numero superiore rispetto alla media della tratta.
Monitorata la presenza di macro rifiuti galleggianti.

39th and 40th Palermo-Tunis Research expeditions
The two expeditions were characterized by favourable weather conditions that allowed several sighting of Stenella coeruleoalba, Tursiops truncatus and Caretta caretta; in january, more than the avarage of the route.
The presence of macro-litter was monitored during all the two research trip.
